A journey through soul, shadow, and story — every image a memory, every step a story.
Behind the lens
Welcome to the Ronin Lens. I’m Barak Michael Shmuel — a photographer, martial artist, volunteer and storyteller. Each collection here is a doorway into a different side of one journey: from birds in flight to armored kindness, from quiet kata to joyful cosplay.
I don’t photograph booths — I photograph bridges. Portraits, performances and pavilions all become part of one larger narrative: that in our diversity lies our unity.

The Archive
Twenty-six doorways. Culture and motion, wings and wilderness, courts and cosplay, steel and silence. Choose a world and step through.

Ronin Charity Hub
Sometimes the strongest light comes from a soul hidden behind armor. As a proud member of the 501st Legion, I’ve stepped into a galaxy far, far away — not just for fandom, but for purpose: hospital visits, charity events, and children who need a hero for an afternoon.
Because when we suit up… it’s not just for fun. It’s for hope.
Ronin Diplomatic Hub
Taiwan isn’t just a place on the map — it’s a feeling. A peaceful pulse of tradition and modern energy. This chapter began at IMTM 2025 in Tel Aviv, where I had the honour of meeting Ya-Ping Abby Lee, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, and continues into IMTM 2026.
My mission is to document not just images… but intentions.
China · Diplomatic research
A study of the evolving diplomatic relationship between Israel and China — and how political ideologies and party systems, namely Labor and Likud, shaped their respective approaches.

Where cultures meet
At the heart of Tel Aviv’s International Mediterranean Tourism Market, cultures didn’t just display themselves — they connected. A Georgian dance beside Indian hospitality; Uzbek ceramics echoing next to Taiwanese colours. Travel is not just movement, but meaning.
Ronin Martial Arts Hub
Three teachers, three disciplines — karate, movement and iaido.
